CANDICE WU

Candice Wu of Candice Wu Couture is presently one of the best-known designers in Boston. Originally from Hong Kong, Candice followed her love of fashion to Boston where she received a business degree as well as a degree in Fashion Design. Inspired by both her Chinese and English ancestry, Candice approaches her designs with creativity and a passion for fun. Most notably, her designs have been featured at Boston Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, and a plethora of charitable events such as The Catwalk for a Cure which benefits the Susan G. Komen Fund.

I was fortunate enough to catch up with Candice regarding the beginning of her fashion career and where she sees herself in the future.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO FASHION DESIGN? HAVE YOU ALWAYS KNOWN THAT YOU WANTED TO FOCUS YOUR CREATIVE ENERGY ON CLOTHING?

I’ve always liked fashion ever since I can remember. When I was little, I did a lot of dressing up and creating different styles with my mom’s clothes. After, I finished a business degree in Boston and I didn’t want to look for a job. So I decided to do the things I love to do, and got enrolled into the school of fashion design. I’ve been designing ever since. Fashion allows people to express themselves in a unique and individual way. Each garment serves as a single statement reflecting our personality or personal style.

WHAT IS MOST SPECIAL TO YOU ABOUT BEING A FASHION INFLUENCER? HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DESIGNS HAVE IMPACTED THE FASHION COMMUNITY?

I don’t know if I can be considered an influencer, but if I can ever be one, I would say just being able to make people look more fashionable and have more fun in dressing up. That’s pretty special to me. Again, I can’t say my designs had any impact in the fashion community, but it would be very flattering and an incredible honor to have the tiniest impact at all. [huge_it_slider id=”4″]

IN TEN YEARS, WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN YOUR CAREER? DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER PLANS TO SUPPLEMENT YOUR LOVE OF DESIGN?CANDICE WU 3

I see myself still enjoying fashion, still having fun, and still presenting creative designs. I think those are the most important things for me. As far as my career goes, I will let things happen naturally… I’ve always wanted to design handbags, so maybe I’ll give that a chance!

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST EXCITING MOMENT OF YOUR FASHION CAREER? WHAT ARE YOU THE MOST PROUD OF?

The last few years have been full of excitement, but to pick one, I would say the time I was given a VIP invitation to audition for project runway by the producer. My most proud moment was when a young girl came up to me and told me she loves my design and she wants to study fashion and be like me. That was definitely a great moment for me!
